From growing up in Malaysia to building his career in Singapore’s fund management industry, Richard Liong’s journey has been shaped by opportunity, relationships and the courage to take the next step.

 

After gaining experience building a fund administration business, Richard identified a gap faced by emerging fund managers — the need for experienced operational support without having to build an entire team internally. In November 2025, he took the leap and started his own company, providing outsourced COO services that allow fund managers to focus more closely on investment.

 

 

For Richard, business ultimately comes down to trust and relationships.

 

Whether working with clients, service providers or his own team, he believes strong relationships create the foundation for opportunities and long-term partnerships. His goal is not simply to grow the business, but to become a trusted presence within the industry — with the longer-term ambition of building a bridge between Singapore and Malaysia.

 

 

As AI continues to transform the way businesses operate, Richard sees significant potential for technology to improve efficiency within fund management.

 

But he also believes the human element remains important. While AI can increasingly support operational work, clients still need someone they can trust for advice and guidance. For Richard, the future lies in combining greater efficiency with that human touch.

What began simply through a personal connection has grown into a network that Richard says has brought significant value to both his business and personal journey.

For him, courage means looking at challenges differently — instead of focusing on what has happened, asking what can be done about it and having the courage to move forward.

 

It is also the principle behind his advice to younger generations: envision where you want to be, work backwards, set goals along the way, and be ready to seize opportunities when they appear.
